THE NIGHT OF RAGHĀ’IB (WISHES)
The first Friday night of Rajab al-Sharīf is the Night of Raghā’ib. The night is called Raghā’ib since angels long to see this night. It is the night in which Hadrat Āminah realised that she was expecting Muhammad Mustafā (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam), the mercy to all worlds, the seal of the prophets.
Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Do not be heedless of the first Friday night of Rajab because the angels named it Raghā’ib (wishes). When one-third of the night elapses, not a single angel is left, neither in heaven nor on the Earth, except that they gather around the Holy Ka‘bah. Allāh Ta‘ālā sees their situation and asks them: ‘O my angels, ask me your wishes’ They will reply, ‘O our Rabb, we ask you to forgive those who fast in the month of Rajab.’ Allāh Ta‘ālā replies, ‘I have already done that.’”
In order to obtain the utmost benefit from this special night, Muslims should try their best to stay awake and spend the night in Ibādah.
DHIKRULLĀH (REMEMBRANCE OF ALLĀH)
It is stated in Sūrah al-Ra’d, āyah 28: “Surely, solely in the remembrance of Allāh, do hearts find satisfaction.” Whenever Allāh Ta‘ālā is remembered, Shaytan departs from that place. Dhikrullāh bars the entrance of anything and anyone to the heart besides Allāh Ta‘ālā. Through Dhikrullāh, hearts are purified from all spiritual filth. It enlightens hearts with the nūr (light) of the Almighty and repels wicked waswasa (insinuations) of Shaytan. Dhikrullāh is a cure for all ailments.
Shaytan cannot approach a person who engages himself with dhikrullāh. The heart of a person constantly occupied with dhikrullāh is not overtaken by ghaflah (heedlessness). A conscious and alert heart is not affected by the waswasa of Shaytan. Allāh Subhānahū says: “…(Say, I seek refuge in Allāh) from the evils of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of humans) (Sūrah al-Nas, 4).
A person who constantly performs dhikrullāh has indeed sheltered in the most fortified fortress of the Almighty and will be saved from all kinds of fear and trials in both worlds. The most virtuous form of Dhikrullāh is the one that is made privately and within the heart.
Whoever remembers, and mentions (the Name of Allāh) will attain everlasting bounties and infinite blessings. On the other hand, whoever neglects will become a shaqī (wretched) and take the path of eternal punishment. O, Allāh! Make us among those who remember you abundantly and appropriately. Āmīn.
