LAYLATUL QADR MORE VIRTUOUS THAN ONE THOUSAND MONTHS
26th of Ramadan, which will fall on the evening of Friday 5th of April 2024. However, scholars of Hadith recommend focusing on the last 10 nights of Ramadan. Especially the odd nights, as it is most likely to have occurred in one of these nights based on the following Hadith:It was advised by the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) to:
THE MERITS OF LAILATU’L QADR
Ashab Al-Kiram (the noble companions) were never happier for anything than they were hearing the third verse of Surah Al-Qadr that translates, “The Night of Qadr is better than a thousand months.”
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) told his Ashab about four people from the Children of Israel, who worshipped Allâh Ta‘âlâ for eighty years without disobeying Allah even with the blink of an eye. That amazed the Sabaha Al-Kiram immensely.
Upon this Jibrael Alayhis Salâm came down and said “O, Muhammad! Your ashab were amazed with those four men who worshipped Allâh Ta‘âlâ for eighty years without disobeying Him even with the blink of an eye. Allâh Ta‘âlâ sent you something better than their virtue.” Then, he recited to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam, the whole Surah that reads ‘Inna Anzalhu fi laylatil qadri…’.Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) and his companions were very happy with it.
WHAT TO DO ON THE NIGHT OF QADR
There is a four Rak’ah Salah on this night to pray. Below is what to recite in each rakah:
First Rak’ah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Qadr
Second Rak’ah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Ikhlas
Third Rak’ah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Qadr
Fourth Rak’ah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Ikhlas
After Salah, one should read:
• Once ‘Allahu akbar Allahu akbar la ilaha illAllahu wAllahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd’
• 100 times Surah Al-Inshirah
• 100 times Surah Al-Qadr
• 100 times the Dua which Rasulullah Sallâllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam taught Hadhrat Aisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) “Allumma innaka afuwwun karimun tuhibbul afwa fa’fu anni” and Dua should be made afterwards.
One should also try to perform Salah Al-Tasbih.

SOME ATTRIBUTES OF THE NIGHT OF QADR
Allah Subhânahu has made some of the things secret for many profound reasons. Allah Subhânahu has hidden His pleasure in the prayers and obedience so that His servants show demand for all prayers and obedience. He has hidden His wrath in the sins so that people stay away from them, be it major or minor. He has hidden His Ismi Atham (Greatest Name) in the Qur’an al-Kareem so that all His names are revered. He has hidden Salaah al-Wusta (the middle prayer [Asr Salah]) in the five daily Salaah (prayers) so that all are preserved. He has hidden His friends (Awliya) so that people do not look down on anyone. And He has hidden the Night of Qadr in the Month of Ramadhan al-Sharif so that Muslims regard every night of Ramadhan al-Sharif as the Night of Qadr and spend them in Ibadah.
Rasulullah Sallallâhu Alayhi Wa Sallam has notified us of some of the signs of Laylat-ul Qadr: That night, the sky will be bright and cloudless. The weather will be neither hot nor cold, but soft. The sun will rise the next day without its glare. Laylat-ul Qadr is the night in which the Qur’an al-Kareem was revealed.
Prayers performed in this night are more valuable than prayers performed in a thousand months (which do not have Laylat-ul Qadr included). Nabi Sallallâhu Alayhi Wa Sallam was shown the life spans of the past Ummahs (nations), and he found his Ummah’s life span rather short. He supplicated to Allah, and thus, Allah Ta’ala bestowed upon him the Night of Qadr.
The angles and the Ruh descend on this night:
Because so many angels descend to witness the wonders of this night, it was called Qadr (overcrowded).
Nabi Sallallâhu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “When it is the Night of Qadr, Allah Subhânahu orders Jibril (Alayhis Salaam) to go with other angels to raise a green banner over the Ka’bah. On this night, Jibril (Alayhis Salaam) encourages the other angels to go around to greet people. They go to every person who is awake, praying or engaged in Dhikr to greet them, shake their hands and say ‘Ameen’ to their prayers. This continues until sunrise.”
This night is peace until dawn.

REVELATION OF THE NOBLE QUR’AN IN THE MONTH OF RAMADHÂN
In Surah al-Baqarah Ayah 185, Allâh Ta‘âlâ says: “The month of Ramadhân in which the Qur’an was revealed, a guidance for mankind, clear proofs of guidance and the criterion (distinguishing right from wrong). Therefore, whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it…” (Surah al-Baqarah, verse 185)
Even though the whole Qur’an was revealed gradually in twenty-three years, it is remarkable that the Ayah mentions it was revealed in the month of Ramadhân. This statement has three explanations:
1-) According to most Mufassirin’s view (commentators of the Noble Qur’an), the Holy Qur’an was sent down in the sacred Night of Qadr to the lower heaven all at once, from there to the earth gradually in twenty-three years.
2-) The revelation of the Qur’an al-Karim from the lower heaven to our Prophet Sallallâhu Alayhi Wa Sallam began in this Month. The first verse of Surah al-Alaq, “Read: In the name of your Rabb [Lord]….” was revealed in the Cave of Hira, in the Month of Ramadhan Sharif on the Night of Qadr. The Cave of Hira, the heat of the month of Ramadhân and the hardship of the night hosted the early rays of the Divine illumination. The grandeur and glory of Prophet Sallallâhu Alayhi Wa Sallam reached the entire world through clear signs and miracles. For the pessimist, this Ayah of the Qur’an is conveying good news: “O you who have believed, seek help through patience and Salah. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Surah al-Baqarah, 153) Thus, there is a glad tiding and bliss for the pious spending many of their nights in humility, shedding tears in Allah’s presence.
3-) The Month of Ramadhân in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed. In truth, there isn’t any other month beside Ramadhân Sharif that is explicitly mentioned in the Holy Qur’an as a way of divine praise.
Thus, Ramadhân Sharif is such a blessed month that even fasting was prescribed in it.
