Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) said: “On the Night of Mi‘rāj, I saw on the gate of Jannah, inscribed, ‘The reward of charity is given in ten folds and the reward of giving loans in eighteen folds’.” (Sunan Ibn Mājah)

THE MIRACLE OF MI‘RĀJ

Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was taken with Buraq from Masjid al-Harām to Masjid al-Aqsā on the 27th night of Rajab (known as al-Isrā), one and a half years before the Hijrah. Then, with the Mī‘raj (a heavenly staircase) brought, he was taken from the Sahra (the holy rock in Masjid al-Aqsā) to the lower heaven. He met with the prophets in each heaven. After greeting and talking to them, he reached Sidrah al-Muntaha. From there, he got on Rafraf and was blessed with the divine presence. He was shown many wonders from Allāh Ta‘ālā’s kingdom.

When he was blessed with the divine presence, he praised Allāh Subḥānahū with the words of tashahhud, “Attaḥiyyātu lillāhi waṣ-ṣalawātu wa’ṭ-ṭayyibāt”. Allāh Ta‘ālā honoured him, responding as, “Assalāmu ‘alayka ayyuhan-Nabīyyu wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhū”. After that, our Prophet (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) included his ummah in honour of this greeting, saying, “Assalāmu ‘alaynā wa ala ibādillahi’ṣ-ṣāliḥīn.” After Allāh Ta‘ālā prescribed fifty daily prayers on his ummah, he repeatedly pleaded to Allāh Ta‘ālā until it was reduced to five. On his way back descending, he saw Jannah with all its degrees and Hell with its pits.

When he descended back to Bayt al-Maqdīs and set out for Makkah al-Mukarramah, he saw the caravan of the Quraysh. In the morning, he informed people about the events that he had experienced. They asked him questions about Bayt al-Maqdīs and the Quraysh caravan. When he replied to their questions one by one, those who received the help of Allāh approved, while those who had no share of faith denied it.

He went to Masjid al-Haram in the morning and informed the Quraysh about the miracle. After hearing it, some of them clapped their hands, and some put their hands on their heads out of confusion and denial. Some of those who had īmān left Islam. After listening to them, some of them rushed to Hadrat Abū Bakr (raḍiyallāhu ‘anhu), who said: “If it is him who said it, it is certainly true.” “Do you confirm him in this, too?” they asked. He replied, “I confirm him even for what is beyond that (his prophethood)!”. Thereupon he was given the title of “Siddīq”.

IBĀDAH ON THE NIGHT OF MI‘RĀJ AND THE FOLLOWING DAY

The 27th night of Rajab al-Sharīf (tomorrow night) is the Night of Mi‘rāj. A Hājah Salāh (Salāh of Needs) consisting of twelve Rak‘ahs should be performed after Ishā Salāh.

In each rak‘ah, after Sūrah al-Fātihah, Sūrah al-Ikhlās is recited 10 times. The intention (niyyah) can be made as follows:

“O, Allāh, for Your pleasure, I have intended to perform Salāh. For the sake of Your beloved Nabī (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam), whom You blessed and favoured by showing him the seven heavens and what they possess, favour this humble servant of Yours with Your forgiveness, grace and pleasure. Allāhu Akbar.”

After Salāh, the following Sūrahs and du‘ās (supplications) are recited:

4 times Sūrah al-Fātihah,

100 times: “Subḥānallāhi wal ḥamdu lillāhi, walā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu akbar, walā ḥawla walā quwwata illā billāhil ‘aliyyil ‘aẓīm.”

100 times Istighfār Sharīf,

100 Salawāt (Durood) al-Sharīfah. Then, du‘ā is made.

This salāh can be performed by reciting Sūrah al-Ikhlās 100 times and it can be completed in ten rak‘ah, or Ikhlās Sharīf can be recited ten times and salāh can  be  completed in 100 rak‘ah. Those Mu’mins (believers) who perform this salāh will, hopefully with the barakāh of this prayer, not stand in the court of Allāh Ta’ālā on the Day of Judgement while having a debt of salāh (he will be able to fulfil his salāh obligations).

In a Hadīth al-Sharīf, it was promised that whoever fasts on the day following the Night of Mi‘rāj will be rewarded with sixty-months of [nāfilah] fasting.

On the same day (the 27th of Rajab al-Sharīf), a salāh consisting of four rak‘ah is performed. In each rak‘ah, after Sūrah al-Fātihah, 5 times Āyah al-Kursī, 5 times Sūrah al-Kāfirūn, 5 times Sūrah al-Ikhlās, 5 times Sūrah al-Falaq, and 5 times Sūrah al-Nās are recited.
