Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Indeed, on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban (the night of Bara’ah), Allāh the Almighty manifests (His mercy) and forgives the sins of all His servants except for those who associate partners with Him and those who harbour enmity towards others (Muslims).” (Munāwī Faydh al-Qadīr)

THE MERITS OF THE NIGHT OF BARĀ’AH
Our beloved Rasūl (sallāllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
When it is the half of Sha‘bān, stand in ibādah (prayers) in its night and fast its day.
Whoever prays 100 rak‘ah salāh on this night (of Barā’ah), Allāh Ta‘ālā will send them 100 angels. Out of these angels, 30 will give glad tidings with Jannah, 30 will tell them they are safe from the fire of Jahannam, and 30 will repel worldly calamities from them. 10 angels will protect them from the traps of the devil.
Whoever spends five nights in ibādah, Jannah will be due for them: The night of Tarwiyah (the night before Arafah), the night of Arafah, the night of Eid al-Adhā, the night of Eid al-Fitr, and the middle night of Sha‘bān.” Some of the characteristics of the Night of Barā’ah:
Every matter of wisdom - people’s rizq (sustenance), their deaths and the like - are decreed and written on this night.
To pray on this night is meritorious.
Mercy descends on this night. Nabī (sallāllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once said: “On the middle night of Sha‘bān, the mercy of Allāh descends to the lower heaven…”
Believers are forgiven, their sins are erased.
Rasūlullāh (sallāllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was given the full authority of Shafā‘ah (intercession) on this night. It happened so, on the 13th night of Sha‘bān, Rasūlullāh (sallāllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked consent from Allāh Subḥānahū to intercede for his ummah. Allāh Ta‘ālā allowed him to intercede for one-third of his ummah. On the 14th night, Nabī (sallāllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked Allāh Ta‘ālā to intercede for the rest of his ummah. Allāh Ta‘ālā then allowed him to intercede for two-thirds of his ummah. When it was the 15th night, he asked to intercede for the remaining. Allāh Ta‘ālā granted him the authority to intercede for his entire ummah, except those who flee from their Rabb, as a camel does from its owner.
This night, it is of Allāh’s tradition to increase the Zamzam water, which indicates that divine knowledge also increases in the hearts of true believers.

IBĀDAH ON THE NIGHT OF BARĀ’AH
The 15th night of Sha‘bān Sharīf is the Night of Barā’ah. One should at least pray Tasbīh Salāh on this night. Salāh Recommended on the Night of Barā’ah: There is a Salāh called ‘Salāh al-Khayr’ advised to be prayed on this night. Whoever prays this 100 Rak‘ah Salāh and dies within that year, will die as a Shahīd. The intention for the Salāh is as follows: “O Allāh, I intend for Your sake only to pray Salāh. Bless me with Your forgiveness, mercy, and Your grace. Protect me from having a gloomy heart, and troubles of this world and the next. List me amongst the Sa‘īd (happy ones).” Allāhu Akbar. At each Rak‘ah, Sūrah al-Fātihah is recited once and Sūrah al-Ikhlās 10 times. Salām is given after every 2 Rak‘ah and this is repeated until 100 Rak‘ahs have been completed.
After Salāh, the following 11 things are recited 14 times since the numeric value (Abjad) of “Hū”, one of Allāh Ta’ālā’s names, works out to 11, and the numeric value of “Tāhā”, one of Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam)’s names works out to 14:
1. Istighfār Sharīf: 14 times,
2. Salawāt (Durūd) Salawāt al-Sharīfah: 14 times,
3. Sūrah al-Fātihah (with Basmalah): 14 times,
4. Āyah al-Kursī (with Basmalah): 14 times,
5. “Laqad jā-akum…” (The last two āyahs from Sūrah al-Tawbah) [with Basmalah]: 14 times,
6. After reciting the word “Yāsīn” 14 times, Sūrah Yāsīn once. (There are 7 apparent and 7 secret words of “Mubīn” in Sūrah Yāsīn, which makes 14 in total)
7. Sūrah al-Ikhlās (with Basmalah): 14 times,
8. Sūrah al-Falaq (with Basmalah): 14 times,
9. Sūrah al-Nās (with Basmalah): 14 times,
10. “Subḥānallāhi wal ḥamdu lillāh walā ilāha illallāhu walllāhu akbar walā ḥawla walā quwwata illā billāhil‘aliyyil ‘aẓīm”: 14 times,
11. Salawāt al-Sharīfah (Munjiyya preferably): 14 times. And then one should make their own du‘ā. (Du‘ās and Ibādahs, Fazilet Publishing)
