MAKING DUA FOR ALL MUSLIMS

Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) said: “The most helpless of people are those who are unable to make du‘ā to Allāh. The stingiest are those who are stingy to greet (give salām to) people.” (Tabarānī, al-Mu‘jam al-Awsāt)

Dua (supplication) is asking forgiveness, pardon, favour and help from Allah Subhānahū. Such a request is one of the biggest and most beautiful proofs of iman (belief) in Allah the Creator of all. Through dua, we present our servanthood to Allah as well as our helplessness and needs. Thus, dua is our duty as a servant to Allah Ta‘ālā.

Abandoning dua does not suit the servants. We invoke Allah to grant us the honour of attaining closeness to Him (spiritually) and saving us from all physical and spiritual ailments. It is mustahab (recommended) for a Muslim to pray for all the Ummati Muhammad (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam). Allah Subhānahū Wa Ta‘ālā says:

“And those who came after them say: ‘Our Rabb, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and do not put in our hearts (any) resentment towards who have believed. Our Rabb, indeed, You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.’” (Sūrah al-Hashr, āyah 10)

Our Nabī (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever supplicates daily, saying: “O, Allah, forgive me and all the Mu’mins (believers),” will be granted one thawab (reward) in his book of deeds for each Mu’min.”

“Whoever asks forgiveness on behalf of all believing men and women will have one hasanah (merit) recorded in his book of deeds for every believing man and believing woman.”

“The most pleasant dua of a servant to Allah is to say, “O, Allah! Show mercy (rahmah) to the entire ummati of Muhammad.”

“Whoever makes istighfar for the believing men and women twenty times a day, he becomes one of those whose duas are accepted and because of whom the dwellers of Earth receive their rizq (sustenance).” (This is a quality of the abdāl (some awliyāullāh).

Ma’ruf al-Karhi (rahmatullāhi alayhi) said: “Whoever supplicates out of firm belief and sincerity saying, “O, Allah! Grant hidayah (guidance) to Ummati Muhammad. O, Allah! Remove all the troubles and difficulties from Ummati Muhammad. O, Allah! Pardon Ummati Muhammad.” he will be recorded among the salihin (righteous).
